Flood Part 1

This is the next part of the image flood. Ten drawings this time, all of them from life. 18"x24" on all of them. Three of these were done in oil pastel, the others were all graphite and colored pencil.

Prepare for the Flood

Well, it's been a good six months since I last posted anything here. That's about to change. I've still been making art like a madman, of course, and over the next few days all of it will be showing up right here. So, prepare for the flood... of work. There are going to be some massive posts coming up.

It starts now. Here are six of the paintings I did over the summer.

Printmaking Stuff

Two photos of my relief prints in progress. The first is a photo of a plate, the second is of a proof.

Loose Watercolor

This is a loose, figurative watercolor that I did a couple weeks ago. It's certainly interesting if nothing else.

Here is apple the third... which is actually a pepper.

This is the second apple of the bunch. Same size, only 8x10.

I've been doing a bunch of small apple paintings lately. Good practice, ya know? Here's the first one. Just a little guy, only 8x10. More to come.

Simplify, Block It Out

Simplify, they said. Block it out, they said. Break down the human form in order to understand it better. So I did, in this drawing modeled after a painting by Frederic Remington.

Some Improvisation

This drawing came from an assignment. I was supposed to be focusing on the eye. My positioning was pretty poor, however, so I had to improvise. Sometimes the best work comes as a result of having been "in danger," so to speak.

Lips and Geometry

This is another of my drawings that's a little more on the odd side. That's probably why I like it.

Another Leopard-Heron Opposition Piece

Seems the opposing forces of the heron and the leopard have snuck their way into another one of my pieces. Colored pencil this time, only 9x11.

More Blind Contours

These are two drawings that came out of the time I spent creating the larger blind contour collage piece I posted a few weeks ago. Out of the dozens of small blind contour drawings I made for that piece, these two turned out so well that I didn't have the heart to cut them up. Sometimes accidents can be beautiful.

More Figures

This was my in-class final in my figure structure class. Two sessions, same model + same pose.

Good From Bad

This one was actually quite a journey to draw. I showed up to the model session slightly late and didn't get a great spot, and then the lamp was put right in my line of sight. In the end that inspired this drawing, which is now one of my favorites.

Eye to Eye

Two eye-themed drawings today. I started the first one with a yellow colored pencil and then finished it out with graphite.

Paper Sculpture

I made a head out of paper with the intention of drawing it to create a 2D piece. Keep an eye out, the resulting piece will appear in a few days.

Blind Contours

This began as a blind contour drawing (green highlighter), and ended up looking like this. Interesting things happen when you draw without looking.

Conceptualized body parts in class. These are four of my favorite drawings that came out of it. Pelvis, arm, hand, arm + hand respectively. (Pelvis is 18x24, the rest are from my sketchbook)
